Cookie Policy

Last reviewed by the editorial desk in 2026.

This Cookie Policy explains how EuroChronicle uses cookies and similar technologies on eurochronicle.org. It complements the Privacy Policy, which describes the broader processing of your personal data.

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files saved on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to make them work more efficiently and to provide reporting information. Similar technologies — like local storage or pixel tags — work in comparable ways and are covered by this policy as well.

2. The categories we use

We group cookies into three categories. Necessary cookies are always active because the site cannot function without them. Analytics and marketing cookies require your consent.

2.1 Necessary cookies

_gidSet by Google Analytics to distinguish reader sessions on the day.24 hours

2.3 Marketing cookies

_gcl_auUsed by Google Ads conversion linker.up to 90 days
IDE / test_cookieSet by Google Ads / DoubleClick for remarketing and ad measurement.up to 13 months

3. Google services

Analytics cookies enable Google Analytics; marketing cookies enable Google Ads, including remarketing. With your consent, online identifiers and pages viewed on this site are shared with Google. Read the Privacy Policy for the full list of data shared with Google.

4. How to manage your consent

The first time you visit, the cookie banner asks you to choose between Accept all, Customize and Reject all. You can change your mind at any moment by clearing the ec_consent cookie or by re-opening the customize panel below.

5. Browser controls

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the site (such as form submission) may stop working. Browser-level "Do Not Track" signals are not currently a standardised consent mechanism, and EuroChronicle does not rely on them in place of the cookie banner.

6. Updates

If we add or remove cookies we update the table above and the "last reviewed" line at the top of the page. Material changes are also flagged on the home page for at least two weeks.
